The Epic of Everest

The Epic of Everest

The audience at the Odeon, Leicester Square was enthralled;  the restored Epic of Everest, with newly commissioned music, shows the 1924 attempt on Mount Everest.  It was made, under difficult conditions, by the expedition photographer, Captain John Noel. He took 14 camera, including a light-weight cine camera, to record the early attempt on the highest mountain in the world; he filmed the party crossing the inhospitable plateau of Tibet, preparing the camps and the final push to reach the summit, which ended in the tragic loss of Mallory and Irvine.

This amazing film, made under such harsh conditions, shows the courage and tenacity of the pioneer climbers.
